We make moving easier!
A later life move can be complicated with many tasks and many decisions. Even if you have adult children
or other family members, they may not be available to help you - they may
live out of town or be busy with their own jobs and families.
You need help from someone…
so we are here to guide you through the move and
back you up - as a friend of the family and a professional move manager.
A later life move actually involves three interwoven concerns – downsizing your possessions, making the move, and managing your emotions throughout the transition. We will address them all to ensure a happy, successful transition to your new home.
If You Can't Take It All with You
Downsizing: You know you don't need to take everything to your new home. Sorting and deciding
what to take and leave behind is a big job. We create a floor plan to help you decide what furniture will fit and where best to place it.
Four your other belongings, we use a sorting process to help you divide your belongings
into four categories:
- things you love and use (you'll keep these),
- things you want to give to someone else
- things to sell or donate, and
- things to throw away.
We Take One Step at a Time
We schedule a series of two-hour sorting sessions and help you go through your house, room by room.
We can make arrangements for shipping items out-of-town, charity pick-ups, and estate sales. If you have many extra possessions, we can refer you to professionals who can conduct a moving sale or an estate sale. We can even change your address, utilities, and your newspaper.
We Help You Feel Right at Home Again
Once we've tackled the downsizing, we schedule our elder-specialized mover.
Then we professionally pack your belongings, oversee the move, and most importantly we
resettle your new home.
We call this process "resettlement" because we want to assure you
that your new home will feel like a home the day you move in -
we arrange your furniture, hang your pictures, and organize your kitchen cupboards and bathroom. We can suggest (and purchase for you) special organizing products
to make the most of your available storage space.
Finally, we set your clocks, and make your bed. No living out of boxes for days on end!
You can feel at home right away.
More Than a Move for You
Emotional Transition: While the actual move might take as little as a day,
your transition into this new life stage may take more time.
You might feel like you're on a roller coaster - one day optimistic,
the next day anxious - before and after the physical move.
We're Good Listeners.
During our first visit with you, we'll get to know about you -
your plans and goals, likes and dislikes. On subsequent work visits,
we'll spend time talking about your concerns - the move, your new life style,
what you're giving up and what you're gaining.
Leaving a long-time home brings out many emotions. Talking helps!
We can reassure you that your feelings - whether sadness and apprehension,
or joy and relief - are intertwined and normal. We are
uniquely skilled at helping you sort through your emotions,
and helping you manage them to create a hopeful view of your new life.
And after you move, we'll check in with you, just to talk and make sure all is well.
